'My dear Jo,' said Beth one morning. 'Make me a promise. Marmee and Father will be very unhappy after my death. Please help them. Please take care of them.'
'I'll try to do that, Beth,' said Jo sadly.
'Beth is so brave and good,' Jo thought. 'She always thinks about other people. She never thinks about herself.'
The days became longer and warmer. That spring was very beautiful. The trees were green again and there were flowers everywhere in the garden.
Beth died early one morning. Her mother and father were with her. Meg and Jo were with her too. Beth's face was very peaceful. Her pain had gone.
